What is Reiki?
Reiki is a method of drawing concentrated Life Force Energy and radiating it. Reiki (pronounced 'ray-key'), is a Japanese word made up of two syllables: Rei & Ki.
- Rei - spiritual wisdom, mysterious power and essence
- Ki (or Chi in Chinese) - vital life force, light
Reiki means "Universal Life Energy" and can also mean "Soul Energy", "Aura", "Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy" and "A system that has been arrived at through a moment of enlightenment.
Reiki is the non-physical force that flows through all living things. Life force plays an important role in everything we do. It enlivens the body as well as the emotions, thoughts and spiritual life.
Reiki reaches all levels of existence and strives to bring these differing levels into balance. It seems to have a way of knowing what is needed for a person, as it is naturally drawn by the recipient in a treatment.
The knowledge that unseen life energy flows through all living things and is connected directly to the quality of health has been part of the wisdom of many cultures since ancient times. Since the last century, this energy was partly measured and seen by Kirilian photography, and is also the ground and inspiration for such theories as Quantum Physics. Modern science gives us new understandings of this life energy.
How does Reiki work?
Reiki Energy is part of the Universal Life Force Energy that is present in all living and non-living things. The Chinese call it Ch’i; the Japanese call it Ki; and the Hindus call it Prana. It is the God-source energy that assists in healing and giving those who receive it a sense of equilibrium and well-being. Reiki energy offers one the chance to experience a higher state of consciousness through healing hands – no matter what belief system or religion you hold.
Reiki energy automatically goes to the area in the body (mind, soul, emotions) that needs healing. It can help to ease physical, mental and emotional pains and traumas; both past and present; allowing you to move forward and progress. The Reiki treatment is a gentle, non-invasive healing method that offers those who receive it relaxation, peace of mind – and in many cases – a physical, mental or emotional healing, relieving pre-existing conditions over time. It is not always an instant healing, but it begins working instantly. In some cases one session is enough to ease an issue, and for other several session may be needed for long-term of deep rooted issues. It is different for individuals, and a client will be able to feel in themselves what may or may not be needed in their case.
What makes Reiki different from other healing methods and forms of bodywork is that the practitioner has been attuned with “empowerments” which serve to fine-tune the physical and etheric bodies to a higher vibratory level. Through the attainment process a person’s energy centres are opened up and aligned to allow the practitioner to channel the life force energy more ably and in greater amounts.
The 5 Principles of Reiki
1. Just for today, I will not be angry
Anger at others or oneself or at the whole world, creates serious blockages in one's energy. It is the most complex inner enemy.
Reiki is an excellent tool to remove anger blockages which have accumulated in the body over years, but it cannot remove the residue of current anger which occurs daily.
Letting go of anger. brings Piece into the Mind.
2. Just for today, I will not worry
While anger deals with past and present events, worry deals with future ones. Although worry is not always a negative phenomena, endless worries may fill one's head, and each one bores a small hole in one's body and soul. While anger requires a focused Reiki treatment to remove obstacles, worry requires the energy to be spread throughout the entire body.
Letting go of worry, brings healing into the Body.
3. Just for today, I will be grateful
Be grateful from your heart inward. Inner intention is the important element in this principle. Simple things as thanks, forgiveness, smile, good words, gratitude can improve others life and make them happy.
Being thankful brings Joy into the Spirit.
4. Just for today, I will do my work honestly
Support yourself and your family respectably, without harming others. Earn a respectable living, live a life of honor.
Working Honestly brings Abundance into the Soul.
5. Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing
Honor your parents, honor your teachers, honor your elders.
Being Kind brings Love into the Will.
